Five Douglas firs, and the work we turned down

Part of the far property-line trim on this job never got priced. It ran into extensive landscaping work, which is a different trade from tree work, and taking it on would have meant charging a homeowner for something better done by somebody else. We said so and left those portions out. The rest of the property line got trimmed back.

What was priced was five parts and eight trees across two full days, most of it off the lift.

The cedar was the awkward one. Moderate size, pinched between the power lines on one side and the main road on the other, with no drop zone worth the name. Nothing about that tree could be felled whole, so it came down in sections off the lift.

The hardwood next to it leaned out over the road and over a neighboring electric line. That one did not get started until the neighbor arranged a service drop for the duration of the work. Trimming live limbs over somebody else’s service is a job to do with the line dead, not a job to do carefully.

Five large Douglas firs made up the longest stretch of the two days. All the wood off them was moved by tractor into a designated area back in the woods, along with a cedar that had already come down on its own in the corner of the property.

The last item was a Bradford pear at the head of the driveway, trimmed. That one had been discussed on an earlier visit, this being a repeat customer, and it was the small thing that finally got done while the lift was already on site.
