Tree Removal in Knoxville and East Tennessee

Removal is most of what we do. Of the fifty completed jobs on this site, forty-three involved taking a tree down. The work runs from Knoxville and its northern suburbs out to Maynardville and Union County.

Almost none of them were a matter of walking up and felling it. A tree with room to fall is a short job. What we are usually called about is the other kind: a tree with a house on one side, a fence on the other, and a power line running through what is left. That tree comes down in pieces, from the top, on ropes.

How the tree actually comes down. Two approaches cover nearly all of it. A climber ties in and takes the tree apart from the top, lowering sections on rigging lines — that is the answer when the ground will not carry a machine, or when the drop zone is a roof. Or we bring a lift, work from the bucket, and section it down the same way with better reach and less time in the tree. Across our jobs, forty-four were climbed and thirty-two used a lift; plenty used both on the same property, because the back yard and the front yard are rarely the same problem.

What is usually in the way. Looking across the work: houses on twenty-five jobs, driveways on fourteen, fences on eleven, roofs on seven, sheds on six. Then the ones people forget to mention until we arrive — gutters, a pool, a gazebo, a dock, a chicken coop, a woodshop, a neighbour’s property line. Septic fields and power lines are recorded separately on every estimate we write, because those two change the plan more than anything else on the list.

Ground protection is part of the job, not an extra. A spider lift crossing a lawn in March will leave ruts you are still looking at in July. We put mats down. On one Andersonville property the estimate said plainly that the lower yard was too soft to work in spring and the pine work would wait for summer — that is the honest answer, and sometimes it is the one you get.

What is left behind. Brush chipped, wood cut to length, ground raked. Where you want the wood is your call — hauled off, stacked, or left in lengths for a stove. We ask before we assume.

Every removal is quoted in writing after one of the three of us has walked the property. The number covers the whole job, cleanup included.
