A dead hardwood, a black cherry and a pine

The tree that brought us out was a large dead hardwood in the back yard. Dead wood does not behave like green wood on the way down. It breaks where it wants to rather than where it is cut, so it was taken with the lift and dropped in controlled pieces rather than climbed.

Once we were on the property there was more than one tree worth looking at, and it was priced part by part so nothing had to be done all at once:

• The dead backyard hardwood, felled and removed off the lift
• A black cherry in the back yard, felled and taken out
• A large pine on the opposite side of the house, worked off the lift with the debris cleared
• A pair in the front yard — one dead and already partly broken out, and one that had been felled at some earlier point and left lying

The house was the thing to keep clear of on the pine, which is why that one got the lift as well instead of a rope. Working over a roof from a basket beats swinging sections past it.

The wood stayed with the homeowner rather than being hauled to a disposal facility. That was offered both ways, and split wood on site was worth more here than an empty yard.

One day for the main tree.
