# Dogwoods, hollies and river birches cut back

Maynardville · March 2026

No removals on this one and nothing to rig. A planted yard that had gotten ahead of itself, worked mostly by hand.

The dogwoods were thinned and pruned. Winter jasmine had run in thick around their bases and was pulled out. The viburnum hedge was cut back and shaped, and the grape vines that had climbed up into it came out with it. Then the compact holly hedge, the tree hollies shaped, the river birches pruned, and the bird nest spruces taken back into form.

**We also put a cheaper option in front of the homeowner.** The winter jasmine coming out from around the dogwoods was healthy plant material. Rather than haul it off and leave the compact holly where it stood, the holly could come out and the jasmine go in its place — a new planting made from something already growing on the property. We wrote it up as an option and left the decision with the owner.

Nothing here presented a safety concern worth listing. The heaviest thing that came off the truck was a hedge trimmer, and the ground protection mats were down for the turf rather than for the weight.
